چکیده

Changes in central venous pressure were recorded continuously before, during and for 40 to 50 minutes after hemorrhage and transfusion in the amounts of 6.5 cc. per Kg. and 8.1 cc. per Kg. The pressures obtained 15 to 20 minutes after onset of blood volume changes were independent of the rate of hemorrhage or transfusion. In the average subject of 70 Kg., AP/AV for zero time was 0.7 cm. of water pressure change per 100 cc. volume change. Recovery from hemorrhage was imperceptible during the one hour observation period, but recovery from transfusion was slightly faster.

Effective compliance of the total vascular bed and the intrathoracic compartment derived from changes in central venous pressure induced by volume changes in man.

In eight male subjects the blood volume was changed (± 10%) by hemorrhage and transfusion. One cycle of blood infusion and withdrawal or hemorrhage and reinfusion was completed within 9 minutes. The effective compliance of the total circulation was calculated from the changes in central venous pressure recorded simultaneously with the changes in blood volume. The effective compliance was 2.3 ml...

Should Low Central Venous Pressure Be Maintained during Liver Transplantation?

Low central venous pressure, which indirectly reflects free hepatic venous pressure, is maintained during hepatic resection surgery to reduce intraoperative blood loss by facilitating hepatic venous outflow. However, whether the low central venous pressure protocol established for non-transplant hepatobiliary surgery should be generalized to liver transplantation is controversial because patien...

Bleeding in liver surgery: prevention and treatment.

Intraoperative blood loss and transfusion of blood products are negatively associated with postoperative outcome after liver surgery. Blood loss can be minimized by surgical methods, including vascular clamping techniques, the use of dissection devices, and the use of topical hemostatic agents. Preoperative correction of coagulation tests with blood products has not been shown to reduce intraop...

Low central venous pressure anesthesia in major hepatic resection.

Blood loss and transfusion requirements are major determinants of morbidity and mortality following liver resection. This study evaluates the association of low central venous pressure [LCVP] with blood loss and blood transfusion during liver resection. Thirty consecutive hepatic resections were studied prospectively concerning CVP, volume of blood loss and volume of blood transfusion and renal...
